By moving the herds to fresh pasture every week or more, the land is stimulated to grow densely.  This technique uses fewer fossil fuels than grain-based confinement farms and creates less concentrated manure toxins that can pollute soil and water.

According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, perennial pastures such as ours have a substantial carbon sequestration advantage over annual grain crops.  


Rotational grazing is also recommended by the EPA because it helps reduce methane “due to improved forage quality” and helps maintain or even improve soil carbon.   And since we don’t need to apply fertilizer, we are not contributing further to greenhouse gas emissions such as NOx.
